Seattle Music - The Songwriter

The other day I was "big picturing" a little bit - zooming out and thinking about my contributions. In particular I was thinking about music and the community in Seattle.

I've been playing, performing and collaborating with musicians in this town for almost ten years. I've seen so many great musical acts come out of this city or continue to make waves on a national and international level; Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Odesza, Macklemore, Allen Stone, Head and the Heart, Lonely Forest, Death Cab for Cutie. Obviously the list goes on, and these are just a few of the contemporary bands.

There are probably a hundred bands for everyone one band that "makes it" who are worth listening to. It seems like there was really a need for something that showcased songwriters specifically. There are just so many bands, musicians, "artists" out there, and it's hard to cut through the clutter sometimes.

I've decided to put together a night for songwriters in town. I've curated eight (surprise) artists that will be playing 2-3 songs in an open mic style format at Barboza on May 11 (8pm). I'm not playing the show or getting paid, but I will be hosting the event -- gushing about each of these talented songwriters.

I would love to see anyone who lives in Seattle at this event. It's free and a really great opportunity to support up and coming and established artists coming out of Seattle.

Oh and Jack Daniel's is sponsoring it so the event can remain FREE! They are doing a $5 JD drink as well.
